The Five Basic Unity Principles

What is Unity?
Unity is more than a doctrine;
it is an attitude. It is more than a church; it is a call to
prayer. Unity is a way of life -- a philosophy. Unity is
practical Christianity. It is a unique and eternal truth that every person
seeks. Unity is not simply an organization to join or a place to worship;
it is a dynamic teaching to study, a presentation of living principles
to practice.
Perhaps Unity's greatest
attribute of uniqueness is in what it tries not to be. Unity is not a
church organization that by its very nature tends to separate its
"members" from those of other organizations. Unity does not try
to convert people from one religion to another. Rather, Unity looks
for the common threads of Truth that underlie all religions, thus bringing people
of all faiths together in peace and harmony.
In the words of our Co-Founder,
Charles Fillmore, "Unity is a link in the great educational movement
inaugurated by Jesus Christ." Unity seeks to teach, in as many ways
as possible, the Truth that the living dynamic presence of God indwells all
people. Our
objective is to discern the truth in Christianity and prove it. The truth
that we teach is not new; neither do we claim special revelations or discovery
of new religious principles. Our purpose is to help and teach mankind to
use and prove the eternal Truth taught by the Master."...Christ in you, the hope of glory." (Colosians
1:27) This was the great discovery Jesus made and the theme of his
teachings: the Divinity of Man.
A Unity Center is a place where
we come together seeking God first and a deeper understanding of what our
relationship with God is. We celebrate this Truth together. As our
understanding continues to increase and unfold,, our lives begin to
transform. Our lives take on an increasing expression of peace, power,
order, love and wisdom.
Unity Church of Greater Portland freely embraces and welcomes all races, colors,
